Sneak Peek: Beatniks, Coffee Houses, and Coders Finding the Magic in a Left-Brain World with the Manchester Poetry Meetup
For some weird reason, poetry groups always make me think of Dobie Gillis. I don't know why. I've never seen the tv show. I don't even know what Dobie looks like, though I'm pretty sure that the guy who played Gilligan on Gilligan's Island played his best friend.
But I digress.
I've been featuring a lot of business and left-brain events lately so when I saw the new Manchester Poetry meetup I thought I'd take a minute to give a shout out to a less linear group.
Organized by software engineer David Gray, the group is for people who enjoy "writing, reading, or listening to poetry."
There's no mention of bongo drums, coffee, or any other beatnik cliche, just an evening of discussion about "the meaning of the poem, what it means to you or how it is interpreted by the listeners." To me it sounds like it might be a nice, relaxing way to kick back, meet some people and get your creative juices flowing.
Manchester Poetry's next discussion night will be on Tuesday, December 12th from 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM at D.M. Penny Press, 250 Commercial Street, Suite 2005-D, Manchester.
